We try hard to treat the causes of and not just the symptoms of Smell and Taste Disorders. Years ago it was OK to tell a patient “there is no treatment available” or “try this medication and see if it will help”. That was because back then there were not many diagnostic tools to use to help find the causes of Smell and Taste problems. As diagnostic techniques have improved, we are much better at determining what is actually causing Smell and Taste problems and use treatments tailored to those causes.

We have invested in state-of-the-art equipment so we can reach a diagnosis in our office quickly and efficiently. We want to get you on the path to recovery as quickly as possible. Our in-office diagnostic procedures and tests include nasal endoscopy, laryngoscopy, allergy testing, nerve blocks, olfactory evoked potentials, acoustic rhinometry, electrogustometry and many other procedures and tests. Each of these tests gives us different information about your nose, sinuses, back of your throat, smell and taste. These tests help us diagnose what may be causing your symptoms. Based on the results, we will recommend medical procedure, medications, allergy treatment, surgery or some combination of all. As a leading practitioner and researcher in Smell and Taste, Dr. Dimitri Pitovski has extensive experience in these treatment protocols and techniques.

Recognition

Dr. Pitovski has received his medical degree from Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, Macedonia. He established training in the department of Otolaryngology at Wayne State University and Tulane University. Has received numerous awards and honors and has been a reviewer for National Institute of Health, National Science Foundation, and other government and private agencies. He is a recipient of the prestigious Clinical Investigator Award in Otolaryngology from the National Institute of Health and a recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Recognition Award. Research

Dr. Pitovski is a highly respected clinician, researcher and medical educator. He has numerous publications and presentations that have been published or presented in prestigious journals and medical meetings. His research has focused in otolaryngology, particularly allergy, and smell and taste. He is also known for promoting innovation in medical education, advisor to large number of medical students, clinical residents, clinical and research fellows, and faculty. He has written extensively about such issues as curricula for medical students, clinical residents and fellows in training.

Activities and Societies

Dr. Pitovski has been an investigator and has brought in funding of over $10 million in the field of otolaryngology, allergy, smell and taste. He participated in Program Projects, Training, and Center Grants (totaling over $15 million). He served on many professional organizations and committees including (few of many) Deans Research Council, Research Oversight, Medical Board of pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies, Surgical Sciences Research Council, and ARO Long Range Planning Committee.
